Canadian-owned Deep Trekker has launched 4k recording technology in both its DTG2 and DTX2 ROV lines, which enables users to dive up to 150m and 305m respectively.

The internal HD camera rotates 270 degrees on the models, which include a handheld controller and image stabilization.

Deep Trekker’s standard ROV’s are also inspiring young people to study marine biology, the company has reported. It says that The Ocean Institute in California is using its ROVs in teaching projects for primary age pupils and encouraging them to build their own oceanographic ROV in its ‘Sea Floor Explorer’ programme.

The ROV’s are also being used to conduct underwater inspections of bridges and potable water towers. Deep Trekker states that US-based company Mountain West Commercial Diving is using the drones to save time and cut costs in its water tower inspections.

ROVS can also be considered to perform remote inspections of port authority vessels to assess unidentified attachments that could pose an ecological or security threat and reduce the risk to staff that would ordinarily carry out this process.

Deep Trekker confirmed its ROVs were successfully utilised as part of testing by the US National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) to set standard performance benchmarks for emergency response robots.

Deep Trekker will be unveiling a new line of products at Nor-Shipping in Oslo, Norway on 30 May - 2 June.
