Netherlands-headquartered Bakker Sliedrecht has been contracted to provide electrical system integration on board Damen’s Service Operations Vessel currently in build for Bibby Marine Services.
It is the first vessel purpose-built for the transfer and accommodation of offshore personnel and aims to maximize working time and staff retention. In line with wind farms being constructed farther from shore, the SOV with walk-to-work access is able to remain at sea for periods upto one month. The design guarantees fast, safe and comfortable access to turbines, at lower cost.
Bakker Sliedrecht is responsible for the supply and integration of all main electrical installations of Damen’s SOV. Key elements of this project are the design, fabrication, installation and commissioning of the main switchboard, two auxiliary switchboards and three drive systems. All drive systems will be equipped with an active filter that saves space on board and creates a clean power supply by eliminating harmonic distortion.
Bakker Sliedrecht will also take care of the design and installation of the complete cabling on board the SOV. The company will commission the SOV’s electrical installations at Damen’s shipyard in Romania.
A dynamic positioning (DP) system will be installed on the SOV. The diesel electric propulsion system reduces fuel consumption when sailing in DP, by making the diesel engines operate in their optimal RPM range.
The SOV will be equipped with Bakker Sliedrecht’s vessel management system BIMAC. Bakker Sliedrecht developed BIMAC especially for marine applications. The user friendly vessel management system manages all main and auxiliary functions of the SOV.
