Titan Endeavour brings Power into survey
Power Catamarans Ltd of Cornwall UK has launched its latest catamaran for Titan Environmental Services of South Wales.
Titan Endeavour is a first of class Powerglide 46 hydrographic survey boat, based on the successful High Performance Displacement Catamaran (HPDC) which has been a mainstay for Power Catamarans since 1998. The catamaran design is extremely fuel efficient and smooth riding, which gives superb comfort to crew and passengers, especially when covering long distances at speed. The catamaran can mobilise rapidly between contracts and is capable of housing the crew aboard for long periods.
The vessel is powered with twin Iveco Neff 400 hp engines, which are downrated to 370 hp for commercial use. They drive conventional shafts and propellers through Twin Disc 5061A gearboxes to provide a top speed of 30 knots and easy cruising at 26 knots. The 14m LOA, 5.1m beam Titan Endeavour draws 1.1m and is certified to MCA SCV class up to 60 miles from safe haven.
The craft has four berths in separate cabins below and can accommodate up to 10 crew when undertaking major survey works. There is seating for all inside the main saloon. The kitchen has been designed to be compact, clean and efficient. It is fitted with a 240v refrigerator, a full size microwave cooker and a two burner induction hob. There is also a small bathroom/shower room below decks which gives the catamaran real stay away from base capability for the crew.
Electrical power for the craft and onboard equipment is supplied from two 6 kW Pagura generators and one Studer 4 kW invertor. This configuration ensures that power will be available without interruption whenever required.
The bathymetry system is mounted on a central sliding ‘periscope’ which is designed to drop through the centre of the moonpool and locks into the deck. This can be raised and lowered as required and the equipment is easily changed in minimal time.
The working deck is fitted with a full hydraulically operated gantry with a 1.5 ton single trawl drum winch by Spencer Carter, as well as a 24 volt hard cable, sidescan sonar electric winch with cable counter.
Hydrographic survey equipment includes an Edgetech FS4200 sidescan sonar, Geomstrics G881 magnetometer, Teledyne TSS Meridian survey gyrocompass, Octopus 760 geophysical data acquisition system, Trimble HydroPro navigation software, Odom Echotrac dual frequency echosounder (hull mounted), Geoswathe Plus swathe bathymetry system, Hemisphere VS110 DGPS system and a Trimble SPS751 RTK system utilising Trimble VRS Now. Completeting the picture are 6 flatscreen PCs.s
After commissioning and setting up the equipment in Padstow, North Cornwall, the Titan Endeavour set off for its first job in Holland, following which it is bound for Belgium then Portugal.
