Companies encouraged to protect client data

UK certification company Bureau Veritas (BV) is urging customers in the marine industry to consider whether they require ISO 27001 certification to ensure they meet international standards of information security management.

ISO 27001 is an international standard which helps to enable an organisation to implement appropriate controls to preserve confidentiality, integrity and availability of information assets.

Increasing numbers of companies are now said to be asking that their partners and contractors hold this accreditation demonstrating that their clients’ information is safe from data-related crime such as hacking.

Due to dependability of information and information systems, confidentiality, integrity and availability of information is essential to maintain competitive edge, cash-flow, profitability and commercial image.

Compliance with legal, statutory, regulatory and contractual requirements is key to ensuring this competitive edge and improved governance provides assurances to shareholders, client, consumers and suppliers.

In a statement issued by BV pointing out that all organisations have asset information, BV said that “ISO 27001 covers all aspects of information exchange, from computer data to conversations in public areas, including securing of physical perimeters and initial personnel screenings.

“ISO 27001 will help you to assure business continuity under almost all circumstances, such as fire, flooding, hacking, data loss, confidentiality breach and even terrorism.”
