EMEC tidal and wave testing
The European Marine Energy Centre (EMEC) has two new videos which demonstrate the facilities provided at its grid connected wave and tidal test site in Orkney.
EMEC offers a range of ready-made and cost effective demo facilities and its recently made a number of significant infrastructure improvements to allow energy developers to perform tests with full confidentiality of performance data.
All income generated by the sale of electricity is returned to the developers increasing the funds for future industry investment.
As well as transmitting electricity, the site utilises a range of environmental equipment to support the development of marine renewables.
EMEC’s site at the Fall of Warness is situated west of Eday lying in a narrow channel which concentrates the tide as it flows between the Atlantic Ocean and North Sea. It offers eight tidal test berths at depths ranging from 12 to 50m.
