Medical first responders for windfarms
The UK personnel transfer expert, Tidal Transit, is offering a brand new service to the offshore windfarm industry, it has introduced a medical first responder onboard its personnel Transfer vessels (PTVs).
Tidal Transit transports technicians to and from the Sheringham Shoal offshore windfarm (SSOWF), which is 17 to 23 miles off the coast of Norfolk in the North Sea.
Leo Hambro, commercial director at Tidal Transit told Maritime Journal that the company had become increasingly aware of the significant risk of being unable to administer advanced medical care to personnel due to the remoteness of the windfarm. Anticipated response times are from 40 minutes up to 1.5 hours for local lifeboats and SAR helicopters.
Mr Hambro told MJ: “The service has been developed around the requirements of the windfarm. It is a highly cost effective solution as the first responders are members of the Tidal Transit vessel crews, which means that the wind farm operator does not have to employ medics in the windfarm field.”
He added that it should have further appeal to all offshore wind farm developers and operators.
Tidal Transit’s strategy for the year is to continue to grow at a manageable rate while retaining its focus on innovative ideas – namely the new medical responder service.
It also plans to have its latest vessel, Kitty Petra, on display at Seawork International this year which is currently being built by Mercurio Plastics. The Kitty Petra is the newest addition to the Tidal Transit fleet.
