At SMM 2018, Raytheon Anschütz unveiled a new suite of navigational software, designed for intuitive operation and enhanced with smart functionality.

The new Radar NX and ECDIS NX software complete the Synapsis NX series of innovative bridge navigation systems. Raytheon Anschütz developed the new software in an agile development process leveraging the expertise of experienced navigators and specialized user interface designers. A new stack of software technologies enables a modular system design and provides the foundation for further development.

Jan Lütt, Director of Product Management at Raytheon Anschütz, said: “Our goal was to make our software most intuitive to use and helpful for navigators. In times of ongoing digitalization, we found this as a key prerequisite before implementing further features. Moreover, we also wanted to find out how we can support use cases of navigators best today and in future. We have just started the journey and will develop Synapsis NX further towards a smarter system offering efficiency in operation and assistance for the crew in demanding situations.”

ECDIS NX simplifies routines aboard. Users can decide to hide panels with indications or operation controls to have a maximized chart window in support of route monitoring tasks. As another example, route planning becomes a wizard-guided process and utilizes intuitive principles such as drag-and-drop for waypoints. Other feature enhancements comprehensive voyage planning tools including interfaces to ship-shore data exchange.

Radar NX introduces a new tracker that delivers optimized performance in tracking and anti-clutter processing. User benefits from a high situation awareness and a fast interpretation of the radar picture. An advanced radar video merge feature is available as an option.

Raytheon Anschütz was also demonstrating its PilotStar NX autopilot which it introduced last year. This combines the best steering accuracy known from the Anschütz autopilot systems with intuitive operation and a broad functional range.

Its main characteristic is the large 7” touch TFT display, and it also features advanced functions such as a trim mode and a preset heading function for specialized operations of workboats. Tillers and handwheels can easily be connected to the PilotStar NX to create compact steering gear control systems.

Raytheon Anschütz was also promoting its Standard 30 MF Gyro Compass, first launched at SMM 2016.
