Actisense launches new multiplexer

Actisense NMEA 0183 product range Actisense's PRO-MUX-1 has eight NMEA 0183 inputs that can be routed to any of its six NMEA 0183 outputs

Actisense has launched its PRO-MUX-1 professional NMEA 0183 multiplexer designed to provide isolation on all inputs and outputs as standard to enable connected devices to safely avoid hazardous ground loops.

Showcased at Seawork 2018, the multiplexer's eight NMEA 0183 inputs can be routed to any of its six NMEA 0183 outputs, providing a customisable network. A bi-directional serial port and an Ethernet port allow for simple configuration and diagnostics using Actisense software, said the company.

Owen Vachell, technical support engineer and training coordinator, stated " It's ethernet capability is used for configuring the unit which has very advanced data routing options."

He added: "It's aimed at the commercial industry and these companies in the past have had two use two multiplexers. This provides you with the option of using a single, unit only and advanced data routing option.

"We've added isolation to each of the inputs and outputs and also in relation to the power supply. What that means is it's very safe to connect other devices to the unit."

The configuration tool is accessible via most web browsers (using the Ethernet port) so there are no PC operating system compatibility issues to contend with, explained Actisense. Using the web based configuration tool will allow the user to finely tune the exact data available on each output. The default setup is for all data to go to all outputs.
