Ian Ellis, MD, Macduff Ship Design, remarked, “We are delighted to be able to attend Seawork International 2018. We first exhibited in 2001 and find the show invaluable for meeting both customers, new and old, suppliers and partners.”

“We are delighted this year to be celebrating the 25th anniversary of the formation of Macduff Ship Design and would like to invite everybody we have worked with over this time to visit us during the show.  We also look forward to the connection between the show and the workboat operators. With the formation of Macduff Marine Surveyors to provide survey services, with particular reference to this sector and workboat coding, the show and associated meetings, conferences and dinners offer opportunity to speak to other surveyors and operators.”

“This year has seen a number of new vessel launches to UK operators from Macduff Designs with a wide variety of vessels from a 12.4m Pilot / harbour workboat for ABP port of Ayr to two 25m aquaculture workboats for Inverlussa Marine services.  We will also be looking forward to the delivery of a 16m harbour tug / workboat for Shoreham port authority which we expect to conduct trials upon our return from the exhibition with delivery due at the end of July.  This project is particularly close to us at the time of Seawork as the first contact for this build project between Macduff Ship Design and Shoreham Port was made at Seawork 2 years ago.”

“We make an effort to ensure that all the staff from our office attend at some point during the week as this allows them to make and renew contacts within the industry as everybody that we work with who operate in the UK attends.”, he concluded.

In February 2018, Macduff received a high commendation from the port authority themselves, for their recently built vessel "Scotia" for ABP Ayr Harbour.

Over the past 25 years Macduff Ship Design Ltd has accumulated a wealth of experience in the design of marine craft, from small open fish farm work boats, large "Multi Mac" multi-purpose, heavy duty work boats and offshore supply vessels, to its range of tugs and large cargo vessels, as well as a great assortment of fishing vessel designs, from under 15 metres to the most modern of deep sea trawlers.

Macduff Ship Design Ltd use the latest in Computer Aided Design (CAD) packages to enable it to optimise all of its designs in terms of economy of build and operation in service and constantly strive to create forward thinking designs that are stable, fuel efficient and individually tailor made for the range of tasks in hand.

Tank testing is carried out on new designs to determine optimum hull shape, power and speed requirements. Handling characteristics and streamlines are used to determine the position and shape of hull appendages.
