ABP partners up with Rolls-Royce and Svitzer
Associated British Ports says it has partnered up with Rolls-Royce and Svitzer to develop the next generation of sustainable port technologies.
The areas the companies will focus on will include intelligent asset management solutions and dynamic positioning systems, amongst a range of potential innovations.
“A sustainable future for ABP means a constant effort to be greener, safer and more efficient, so that we can continue to play a crucial role in Britain’s economy, industrial infrastructure and local communities,” said Mike McCartain, ABP’s Director of Marine & Compliance.
Tri-party MoU
A tri-party Memorandum of Understanding (MOU), was instigated by ABP’s Director of Marine & Compliance, Mike McCartain and signed by all parties during a ‘kick off’ workshop at ABP’s Port of Southampton.
The meeting was also attended by representatives of the UK Department for Transport and the Maritime and Coastguard Agency.
Mr McCartain said: “New technologies emerge all the time which offer us exciting, additional capabilities. Where a solution does not yet exist, we will work with companies of the calibre and expertise of Rolls Royce and Svitzer to invent them and bring them into service.”
One of ABP Southampton’s latest sustainability projects has been to install more than 2,000 roof-mounted solar panels on the port’s largest cruise terminal.
It’s all part of a programme to invest more than GB£1m in solar energy on ABP-owned buildings going forward.
