Internet-free connectivity
The MiPlayer system is a live broadcasting service which operates over a local wifi network, without the need for internet connectivity.
MiPlayer was first developed for the military and disaster relief agencies. It gives access connection to live news, welfare/entertainment and educational services in areas where internet connection may be impossible.
Following trials with the UK’s Royal Navy two years ago, MiPlayer is now widely used by British land and naval forces on military operations, deployments and exercises. Product development is continuing, with a range of fully customisable MiPlayer models providing successful connectivity at high density, with lower costs.
The application of MiPlayer extends beyond the military community. The technology is also compatible for use in the commercial maritime sector, providing the same levels of broadcasting and connectivity for those who require access to critical information.
SSVC has continued to develop MiPlayer; with the British Royal Navy it was established that when personnel were deployed afloat they were losing out on key training courses that were necessary for career development and promotion. Their Virtual Learning Environment is now available on the MiPlayer on board ship ensuring that careers aren’t compromised due to deployments or operations. The MiPlayer will then link with the main land based server during periods of internet quiet time (if available) or when back at port (using Ship Alongside services).
