Danish Fire and Rescue RIBs
RIB builder Tornado has delivered two rescue boats to the Slagelese Brand and Redring which is the fire and rescue service that serve the Slagelese area of Zealand in Denmark to strengthen their ability to cope with water incidents writes Dag Pike.
The rescue boats supplied are taken from the Tornado range of standard designs, one is a 6.9 metre Multi-purpose design and the other is a 5.8 metre High Performance design and both have been modified and equipped to meet the specific requirements of the Brand and Redring. The 6.9 metre is powered by a 200hp Yamaha four stroke outboard which gives a top speed of 40 knots when the crew of three are on board. The design of the boat is based around the SOLAS MOB rescue boats that Tornado offers but with the addition a considerable amount of extra equipment.
For navigation and communication the equipment mounted on the console comes from Garmin with a marine band VHF, a GPS Map plotter and an AIS transponder. A further VHF radio that operates on the Brand and Redring frequencies is also fitted. There are blue flashing lights and 6 LED spotlights for night operations and these are mounted on a stern A-frame. At the helm there is a Zero G1 suspension seat. To assist in the recovery of casualties from the water a Markus MOB Boat Rescue net has been provided.
The 5.8 metre RIB is powered by a 100hp Suzuki four stroke outboard which gives a top speed of 35 knots when there is just the crew of two on board. Otherwise much of the equipment on board is specified at the same level as the 6.9 metre RIB but the capacity of this RIB is reduced to 8 persons compared with the 12 persons of the larger RIB.
Both RIBs have been supplied with road trailers so that they can be towed to the scene of an incident and then launched. The area covered by the Brand and Redring borders on the Great Belt and also includes inland lakes so these two rescue RIBs offer great flexibility in the way that rescue can be organised.
