Safe Connections Suitable for Marine Environments
Wales based Elkay Electrical has launched a new range of Aqua-safe connectors which are particularly suitable for carrying electrical supplies through wet and damp environments such as those found in ports, harbours, marinas and dockyards.
The new range of bulkhead or panel mounted fittings are available in larger cable sizes and with handling capacities up to 16 Amps. A new active latch mechanism accesses the connectors for quicker wiring and a quick release click action collar ensures correct mating.
Saving time on installation, the cable is simply pushed through the housing without disassembling the gland, and the conductors are fixed into the appropriate terminals. The inner connectors are then re-fitted by sliding them back into the housing and rotating 450 clockwise so that the latch mechanism clicks into the locked position. To complete the assembly, the gland nut is tightened onto the outer sheath of the cable to provide total sealing and retention.
The housings also have a simple, effective quick release click latch design which is more reliable than screw threads due to the firm, positive click on completion of the connection. This provides an ingress protection of IP68 up to 2 bar (20m depth). Sealing caps are also available to maintain IP rating if connectors are separated.
