Cutty Sark gains another donation

The shipyard has produced a large number of tugs of this type, based on a very successful design from Robert Allan Ltd. Over the years the original design has been refined in the light of experience gained locally and through other operators also using vessels built by Irving. In this instance the tugs are required to meet the requirements of Lloyds Register Ice Class 1A FS for operation in Scandinavian waters.Restoration of the iconic clipper ship ‘Cutty Sark’ in London will be completed thanks to a £3.3m donation from shipping tycoon Sammy Ofer. Mr Ofer donated £20m to the National Maritime Museum earlier this year. The ship was being restored in a £35m project when damaged by an unexplained fire in May of last year. Mr Ofer’s donation ensures Cutty Sark will be fully restored by 2010. This joins the donation from half a dozen of London’s major shipbrokers – see
