First Car Carrier Arrives on Humber
The ever expanding Humber Sea Terminal (HST) has added a car carrier to its list of clients with the arrival of a vessel operated by Eukor Car Carriers transporting some 2,500 cars from a major producer in the Far East.
Eukor operates vessels of some 200m LOA with a 32 m beam and 8.5m draft. Humber Sea Terminal was specifically designed to enable round the clock access for ro-ro vessels of this type. Opened in 2000 with two berths by Simon Group PLC, HST has expanded to four berths on the strength of a list of clients which includes Stena, Cobelfret, UECC, Norfolkline, Ferryways and now Eukor.
With approximately 40 sailings per week, further expansion is planned at HST with the addition of two more berths at a development cost of £25m.
The arrival of the first deep sea car carrier on the Humber paves the way for other similar opportunities by providing car importers with a direct gateway to the Midlands and North of the UK for the first time.
