First S-VDR Type Approval
Norwegian marine electronic safety equipment manufacturer Jotron Electronics AS hasclaimed an industry first by gaining Type Approval for their new TRON S-VDR (Simplified Voyage Data Recorder) capsule. Jotrons latest product has been tested and approved by DNV in accordance with IMO Res.MSC.163 (78).
The 5,300gt vessel was launched in July by Kroeger Shipyard, part of Lurssen, for the German Ministry of Research and Education. After final inspection at Lindenau Werft and repair of one of its two Schottel pod drives, the vessel will be handed over to the Baltic Research Institute Warnemunde (IOW), to replace three de-commissioned research vessels.
The TRON S-VDR capsule is built on the same platform that supports the Jotron EPIRB product suite. The Final Recording Medium (FRM) utilises a Fast Flash Disk solution based on strict military and aerospace requirements which ensure data is safely stored and easily retrievable. The TRON S-VDR eliminates the need for expensive underwater operations and comes with a powerful Xenon strobe light for visual identification powered by a seven day battery once activated. The system operates on EPIRB enabled GPS.
