Since 1969 QE2 has sailed over three millionmiles, been a troop ship in the Falklands War and had her main engines changesfrom steam to diesel.
There are only two more famous ocean liners than the QE2 – Titanic and Queen Mary.
The ship was built at Clydebank and was the last great ocean liner and the last real ship of state ever built. She was born in a time when the jet and air travel had stolen most of the passenger trade across the Atlantic and was designed to cruise as much as brave the North Atlantic in all seasons.
She is still a familiar sight in major ports around the world and has many fans amongst the thousands of people who have travelled on her, including Rod Stewart.
Janette McCutcheon tells the story of the QE2 in words and pictures, with many previously unpublished images.
