Crane Drain Boosts Boxes
The Port of Marseilles Authority is transferring two panamax gantry cranes from Fos container terminal to handle growing box traffic at the adjacent Brule-Tabac terminal. The extra equipment will allow Brule-Tabac to grow its traditional multi-purpose ro-ro activity whilst also enabling the acceptance of small container carriers and river barges previously handled at Fos. Containerised river traffic through the port rose 63% last year.
The technology centre at the Norwegian University of Science and Technology (NTNU) at Trondheim sees Rolls-Royce, NTNU and Marintek as UTC partners. The new agreement will result in a highly targeted, coordinated centre conducting long term funded research programmes. The UTC will undertake work that gives a better understanding of the operating environment of marine vessels and their propulsor and manoeuvring systems.
