Short notice seminar on new fuel regs

The seminar, which runs from from 10:00 to 16:00, is being organised at short notice, due to the short time available from the UK Government’s Department for Transport (DfT) for consultation. The cost to attend will be in the region of only £25 per delegate, largely to cover refreshments

This is an important seminar that has been organized to advise delegates on the introduction, by the Department for Transport, of new specifications of marine gas oil in response to EU Directive 2009/30/EC. This Directive, which comes into force on 1 January 2011, m

and

ates the use of ultra-low sulphur fuel (less than 10ppm sulphur) in place of ‘Red Diesel’ currently used (less than 0.1% sulphur). As well as other chemical changes, the specification also allows for up to 7% biofuel content. The impact of these changes could be considerable to those operating vessels in UK Categorised Waters.

The seminar will include a presentation from the DfT explaining the reasons

and

background for the change to specifications

and

will include review of engine trials undertaken in other affected transport sectors

and

discussions on fuel availability with the refining

and

retail sectors. Special attention will be given to issues of storage, fuel condition monitoring

and

treatment, due to the increased risk of microbiological contamination for the higher biofuel content.

This seminar is of interest to all those operating, maintaining or surveying commercial

and

recreational vessels that operate in UK Categorised Waters.

Maritime fuel producers, dispensers

and

retailers will also find important information

exchange of ideas, as will those from regulating bodies, such as the UK’s Maritime

and

Coastguard Agency (MCA).
