Merged MAN opens new Training Academy
Stockport based MAN Diesel Ltd and its sister company MAN Turbo (UK) Ltd have merged operations in the UK to form a new organisation, MAN Diesel & Turbo UK Ltd.
All administration and finance departments from both companies have been centralised at the newly built MAN Diesel & Turbo UK head office complex in Stockport, Cheshire. Also, as part of this merger, a new MAN Diesel & Turbo UK sales office has been opened in Redhill, Surrey.
The first ever training course held at the newly constructed MAN Diesel & Turbo UK Ltd Training Academy in Stockport was recently completed. The two week long training programme, covering engine maintenance for the Mirrlees Blackstone ESL MK2 engine range, included delegates attending from a major overseas customer, the Royal Jordanian Air Force.
Announcing details of the opening of the Academy, Wayne Jones, managing director of MAN Diesel & Turbo UK Ltd said, ‘It was fitting that a long standing customer, such as the Royal Jordanian Air Force, were part of the inaugural training course at our brand new state of the art training academy. Their long term commitment to training is impressive, as each year the Royal Jordanian Air Force sends a group of delegates for ongoing engine training in the UK, and have been customers of the company since 1986.’
The Royal Jordanian Air Force currently has 18 Mirrlees Blackstone ESL MK2 engines in service, comprising both 6 and 9 cylinder versions originally built back in 1986/87 at the company’s Stamford manufacturing site. These engines are used to drive alternators to supply power at various airbases located across Jordan.
As part of the newly constructed multi million pound head office facility for MAN Diesel & Turbo UK Ltd, the Academy in Stockport is one of only six in the world, providing the highest levels of facilities and training to MAN customers, employees and the local community.
On the training course, which was run by MAN Diesel & Turbo Training Instructor Andrew Fenn, were four Royal Jordan Air Force delegates, including two Air Force officers and two civilian technicians. A number of the company’s own field service engineers also joined the programme to refresh their skills on this engine type.
