Van Oord installs rock to protect Brazilian pipeline
Dutch dredging and marine contractor Van Oord has completed a rock installation project on the Rio Negro pipeline crossing project in Manaus, Amazonas State, Brazil. The client is the Brazilian oil and gas operator Petrobras.
The work is part of the Urucu-Coari-Manaus gas pipeline project which transports gas from the Solimões basin to the city of Manaus. In order for the gas to reach Manaus, two pipelines with diameters of 14in and 20in needed to cross the River Negro.
To guarantee stability and prevent scour, the flexible fallpipe vessel Tertnes carried out the rock installation works on both pipelines. The vessel loaded the rock at a floating quay wall in the port of Chibatao, Manaus. The project was the first rock installation project by a flexible fallpipe vessel in Brazil.
