First commercial wave power plant opens

The Basque seaport of Mutriku made energy generation history last week when utility company Ente Vasco de la Energía (EVE) officially started the Mutriku wave power plant, the first in commercial operation.

The wave power plant is integrated into Mutriku Harbour’s new breakwater, which was required for safety of navigation.
