MJMAR12 Front Cover Story

The South Boats 17m WFSV is a new model designed to maximise deck area and sea-keeping, but with specific overall dimensions to ensure that the vessels are capable of working through the locks at Grimsby.

To achieve this, the 17m has an LOA of 17.5m, beam of 6.3m, draught of 0.95m and a lightship displacement of 30 tons. The deck and topside structure are extended aft over the water jets to provide full protection in confined operating areas. An aft of centre wheelhouse provides a 30m2 forward deck capable of carrying up to 5 tons of construction and O&M equipment, whilst a 24m2 aft deck is capable of carrying a further 2 tons.

Powered by twin Scania DI16 43M 800mhp diesel engines coupled to Rolls-Royce FF500 water jet units, the 17m has achieved a sprint speed of 27 knots and is capable of cruising at speeds in excess of 23 knots in departure condition. The vessel is the first in the UK to be fitted with Rolls-Royce’s new ROCCS Remote Control System.

South Boats 17m WFSV’s are in service with Iceni Marine Services, MPI Workboats and Mainprize Offshore. Late 2012 & 2013 build slots are available.
