PowerSeat rises to the occasion at Seawork
The Harken PowerSeat, which will make its first UK appearance at seawork 2012, is the first of its kind, extending working hours and capability, and providing the quality and comfort that people working in hazardous environments deserve.
TheHarken PowerSeat is a sit-on powered ascender with an inbuilt manual friction brake descender.
Designed to be used anywhere that rope access is possible, the Harken Power Seat is well suited for industrial maintenance, architectural and construction work, wind turbine and offshore construction access, engineering and inspections, marine rigging, and also in search and rescue operations.
The Harken PowerSeat makes it is possible to work in comfort for extended periods of time, providing a claimed productivity boost of up to a 50% whilst saving substantially on operational costs and wage bills. It is simple to operate and has a full 360° working area that allows unobstructed work, even in confined areas. The portable unit weighs just 14 kg, so is easy to carry whilst also being strong, durable and corrosion resistant.
Hampshire UK based raining instructor Mike Jones said, “I extensively tested the Harken PowerSeat, ascending the 34m Coastguard Tower in Calshot on Southampton Water. I found the PowerSeat to be extremely effective, versatile and supportive. Manoeuvring both up and down was smooth and straightforward.”
The PowerSeat works with standard approved personal fall arrest systems, and does not replace them. The brake system helps protects from a free fall. In an emergency, the PowerSeat can be evacuated safely and left behind as the operator is already clipped to conventional harness equipment.
Its load rating allows for a maximum working load of 273 kg, enabing it to handle a two person load in rescue situations. It is CE certified to Machinery Directive and verified by Bureau Veritas, meeting the toughest safety standards and approvals.
