Ibercisa equips another Jan De Nul ship
Jan de Nul has had an interesting collection of deck machinery installed on its new fall pipe dredger.
This new 6,000 tonne side-dumping vessel is larger than most so simple economies of scale allow it to execute rock dumping at lower unit costs. The Willem de Vlamingh is equipped with an ROV controlled fall pipe designed for accurate placing of rocks at 200m water depth and a 5,000 tonne capacity turntable for cable laying.
A 110kW winch, supplied by Ibercisa, is used for controlling the hoisting and lowering of the pipes and arm of the suction equipment onboard the vessel.
This winch is controlled via an electronic frequency converter drive giving a direct pull of 33 tonnes. The winch features two drums working simultaneously, and these have a 200m run of 36mm diameter cable in a single layer.
There is also a second, 20 kW emergency auxiliary engine that can run the winch, which gives the same pull at a slower speed.
The Willem de Vlamingh is the second Belgian vessel to be equipped by Ibercisa in less than a year. At the beginning of 2011, the Vigo company supplied machinery for the Charles Darwin, built in La Naval, at Sestao also for Jan de Nul.
