Jumbo installation at Anholt windfarm
Jumbo Heavylift’s DP2 vessel Jumbo Javelin has recently installed the first transition pieces (TP) for the Anholt Offshore windfarm in Denmark.
The operation had to be carefully planned and performed with respect to every detail – transport, installation, accessibility of the TP, grouting and safety.
Jumbo had to load the first nine transition pieces at Aalborg and they were then transported to the windfarm location.
At the site, Jumbo Javelin positioned itself next to the pre-installed monopoles and the TP’s were lifted into place. The TPs were then levelled to their final position.
Anholt offshore windfarm is being built by DONG Energy. Jumbo performed the job under the Danish contractor MT Højgaard – which was in charge of the installation of the foundations.
Jumbo Javelin is able to carry 9nine TPs at a time – each weighing 200t. The TPs are stowed vertically in the vessel for transportation.
Using the dynamically positioned heavy lift vessel Jumbo Javelin for installing TPs had the following advantages – high transportation load, fast transit and fast installation.
Jumbo say that the reposition from one position to another is also made quicker because “the vessel does not need to reposition anchors or jack up and down again”.
There is also only the need for one vessel for both transport and installation.
