Littoral in Oostende
The City of Oostende on the Belgian coast will host the 11th Littoral Conference,the bi-annual international conference of the Coastal and Marine Union – EUCC and EUROCOAST, from 27 to 29 November of 2012.
With increasing pressure from both land and sea, understanding coastal processes and adapting governance and management to present and future challenges are crucial. In coastal regions, typically a large number of users and functions come together. Integrated Coastal Zone Management (ICZM) has been developed over
the past two decades to combine functions, users and decision levels in a sustainable way.
However, with the acceleration of global change, the economic crisis and the demographic shift, a new and improved ICZM is needed to safeguard the coasts of tomorrow.
Coastal practitioners, researchers and policy makers are invitede to submit abstracts concerning their best-practice examples or research projects related to any of the four themes of Littoral 2012 – Coasts of Tomorrow; Nature Conservation in Coastal Areas, Coastal Productivity, Innovation In and On Inshore Infrastructure, and Mearsuring Sustainability in Coastal Areas.
