FRC to hold Whole Body Vibration seminars
FRC International (FRC) is holding a Whole Body Vibration (WBV) Seminar on 10 July and a Health Surveillance Awareness Seminar on 11 July at the RNLI Lifeboat College in Poole, UK.
The seminars are unique and follow on from the WBV Awareness Course that FRC launched back in January of this year.
Mitigating against whole body vibration is an important and topical issue across both the commercial and leisure marine sectors – The UK’s MCA MGN 353 recognises the problem and MGN 436 gives guidance on mitigating against the effects of shocks and impacts on small vessels.
John Haynes, AFNI, operations director of FRC International, said to Maritime Journal: “The professional maritime sector recognises the need to reduce the effects of whole body vibration, but this is not a straightforward process for those operating RIBs and high speed craft. These vessels can expose crews and passengers to high levels of repeated shock and vibration which has been shown to increase the risk of injury. Anyone specifying, designing, building or operating planing craft in the professional sector needs to have an understanding of the effects of Whole Body Vibration on occupants.”
The FRC WBV Awareness Courses, recognised by The Nautical Institute, are relevant to all sectors affected by this major health and safety issue. This includes military, search & rescue, government agencies, local authorities, police, wind farm, oil & gas, thrill rides, charter, powerboat schools and all organisations operating planing craft.
Speakers at the seminars will include Julie Carlton, MCA seafarer safety & health manager, and Dr Tom Gunston, UK representative on the ISO committee for the evaluation of human exposure to whole body vibration containing multiple shocks.
