HR Wallingford wins award for scour research

It follows the award of the Sir William Halcrow prize in 2010 for the best paper published by the Institution of Civil Engineers on Maritime Engineering with the paper Harris, J.M., Whitehouse, R.J.S. and Benson, T (2010), entitled ‘The time evolution of scour around offshore structures’.

In June 2012, HR Wallingford was awarded the 2011 offshore prize for their paper ‘Evaluating scour at marine gravity foundations’, by Whitehouse, R J S, Sutherland, J and Harris, J M (2011). This was published in the Proceedings of the Institution of Civil Engineers, Maritime Engineering, 164, December, Issue MA4, pp. 143 – 157. The paper formed part of a special issue on marine scour edited by Dr Harris and Professor Whitehouse.

The annual ICE Awards Ceremony is one of the highlights of the institution’s calendar. It celebrates excellence within civil engineering and technical writing, and the outstanding commitment of the award winners. The awards ceremony will be held on Friday 12 October 2012.

HR Wallingford is internationally recognised as a leading expert in the analysis and modelling of scour processes, particularly with regard to marine scour. The work presented in the papers forms part of the output from an active research and development programme into scour at structures in the marine, estuarine and fluvial environments.
