Antwerp quay works
The West Quay embankment in Antwerp’s Kempisch dock is due to be fully restored.
The work is planned to start this month and will take a total of eight months to complete. There will be some temporary inconvenience for users of the marina, while the dock workers who frequently use the car park on this side of the dock will have to park elsewhere in the neighbourhood. This car park will not be re-opened after the work has been completed.
The embankment consists of a wooden containment faced with stone cobbles. During the next few months this wooden structure will be replaced with steel sheet piling. Above water the cobble facing will be replaced and repaired. The work will be carried out by Herbosch-Kiere and will cost some €1m.
During the work the West Quay will be almost completely taken up by the worksite, and two of the three footbridges in the marina will be taken away. The jetties will only be accessible on the South side, at the head of the dock.
