New multifunctional carrier from Damen

The carrier has been designed as a smaller heavy transport, offshore installation and ro-ro platform. The new multifunctional concept provides flexibility and year round utilisation for multiple markets.

Remko Bouma, sales manager at Damen Shipyards, Bergum, said, “We wanted to create a vessel that was able to carry modules and cargo on an open deck over medium and long distances, complying with the demands of today’s market. I think this vessel will be the alternative for the more time consuming tug and barge transportations.”

The 27.5m wide DOC has an endurance of 65 days and reduces fuel consumption by 50% to 75%. The vessel can run on HF0380 and is able to handle higher seas whilst maintaining its typical average speed of 10 to 12 knots.

The DOC’s flexibility means it can also be used in the offshore wind and tidal energy sector for a wide variety of installation work, as a semi-submersible. and as a dredging and mining support solution.

The new Damen vessel has a Green Passport and a Zero Dumping certification. The first DOC is expected to be delivered in 2014.
