Remote vessel management

AST Marine Sciences Ltd (AST MSL), a subsidiary of Applied Satellite Technology Limited, is extending its portfolio to include telemetry iRAMS (intelligent remote asset monitoring), fleet monitoring and SCADA remote engine monitoring for the maritime and offshore windfarm sector.

iRAMS offers users an easy to use, graphical interface for engine monitoring via both GSM, as a primary method, and satellite communications, as a fail over, enabling remote visibility of vessels from anywhere in the world.

Data collected can be viewed from any location, allowing staff visibility of engine information via a web-based interface. Data is automatically stored in a secure server which can be accessed at any time, allowing for detailed analysis of historical information that can improve operational efficiency. Data can also be fed into any existing maintenance scheduling tool or directly into the AST VMS (Vessel Maintenance System).

In addition, transit data can be recorded and viewed by operational staff by geo-fencing areas surrounding the vessel home ports and work areas. With its in-built, user-definable alerting function, iRAMS can send e-mails or text messages to shore based staff, for example when a vessel leaves port.

AST MSL says presenting the availability of spatial and engine data in real-time can assist any operator with more efficient and cost effective vessel management. Installing iRAMS is also said to reduce the cost of planned maintenance, risk reduction, monitoring, reduced administrative time and fuel savings.
