MAN power for Van Oord dredgers
MAN Diesel and Turbo is to supply a complete propulsion package for two new trailing-suction hopper dredgers ordered by dredging company, Van Oord.
Each of the vessels, which are being built at CNN LaNaval Shipyard, will feature a MAN 6L48/60CR engine, RENK gearboxes with PTO, MAN Alpha CP Propeller systems, Alpha High Trust Propeller nozzles and MAN Alpha AT3000 propulsion-control systems.
The 48/60CR engine type is a popular choice for dredging application. Currently, MAN has 14 such engines on order for installation aboard cutter- and hopper-dredger newbuilds for customers in Benelux and China. All engines will be built at MAN’s main facility in Augsburg, Germany.
The engines are equipped with in-house developed technologies to optimise their economic and ecological performance including TCA-type, exhaust gas turbochargers, electronic fuel injection system, and electronic hardware and software for engine control, monitoring and diagnosis.
Van Oord’s new dredgers will have a hopper capacity of around 17,000m³, a length of 158m and a width of 36m. They will also be equipped with two suction pipes with submerged e-driven dredge pumps, two shore discharge dredge pumps, six bottom doors and a total installed power of 23,680 kW.
The environmental design of the vessels means significant reductions in fuel consumption, and therefore in CO2 emissions, will be achieved. The vessel swill be equipped with sustainable systems and will both obtain a Green Passport and Clean Ship Notation.
Delivery of the vessels is scheduled for 2017.
