Dutch windfarm contract
MPI Workboats (MPIW) has secured what it believes to be a first in the industry – a long-term service contract with Siemens’ Westermeerwind windfarm.
The windfarm will be serviced by the MPI Dorothea working out of Lenmer, Friesland, for a period of 15 years.
Westermeerwind windfarm is located on the Dutch IJsselmeer and will have 48 3MW Siemens WTGs installed along the shore edge.
For this charter, MPIW had to develop a long-term service strategy, designing a light-weight access platform to be mounted on the foredeck of the vessel which will allow service technicians to step directly on to the turbine platform, located 5m above sea level.
MPIW said that securing this important contract was largely due to the firm’s credibility, reliable, innovative and flexible project team and the company’s proven track record.
This year has been a busy one so far for MPIW with good utilisation across the fleet and some notable contract awards, involving new locations and unique projects.
