New interest group for seabed scour technology
An EU funded project, Exposures, has been formed to establish a new marine information data collection system.
It will be used to benefit commercial marine applications such as the measurement of scour around wind turbine foundations and the managing of coastal erosion and silting.
Exposures will initially focus on seabed monitoring and show how new seabed bathymetric data can be integrated seamlessly with data and models from other sources. This will hope to generate high value information for a wide range of users of coastal waters and seabed resources.
At the Sunrise facility in Portugal, the Exposures’ pilot infrastructure has already been designed. It will be used to undertake a series of live field trails.
Project partners IT Innovation (University of Southampton) and Marine South East are facilitating the interest group to ensure the technology is developed to full effect.
The 12-month project will aim to demonstrate that the Exposures platform is viable. The intention is to have a stakeholder consortium and strategy to take the technology into the next phase.
Field trails are expected to begin in early 2016, followed by a validation workshop which is expected to be held in early April for all the interest group members.
