Remote controlled harbour dredging
Italian dredging equipment manufacturer Dragflow recently supplied a Remote controlled dredge for a harbour dredging project in Italy’s Marina Sveva.
Due to the effects on harbour currents caused by a dam, too much sand sedimentation was occurring inside the harbour, compromising vessel access.
Dragflow supplied a Remote controlled dredge (DRP18), equipped with a dredging pump (EL12.5S),with an output of about 70 m3/h of mixture. Thanks to the remote control operation, once the area was identified, the operator was able to safely move the dredge from the quay, and control both the dredge movement and the pump, also in its vertical movement.
The project also entailed keeping the seabed controlled, by transferring the exceeded sand material to a distance of approximately 150m.
According to Dragflow, the system worked perfectly, to the extent that the client decided to acquire a complete Dragflow dredging system in order to be able to dredge the harbour without expensive and recurrent external intervention.
