Rolls-Royce sells 100th LARS
Rolls-Royce has won a contract to supply its 100th and 101st Launch and Recovery Systems (LARS).
The two systems will be installed on board the DOF Subsea’s Skandi Neptune, following a successful contract agreement.
Ingve Osberg, DOF Subsea’s group asset manager, said: “DOF Subsea have 31 Rolls-Royce LARS deploying and retrieving a range of remotely operated vehicles (ROVs) safely, precisely and reliably in a wide range of operating environments worldwide.”
The system will further allow the deployment and recovery of ROVs to a depth of 3,000m plus.
It has active heave compensation to cope with severe weather and can launch and recover a ROV to a given target depth and at a given target speed.
“DOF are the largest operator of our Launch and Recovery System and their purchase of over 30 of these systems is evidence of our products’ ability to meet our customer’s needs for advanced technology which can operate reliably in even the most extreme conditions,” concluded Bjorn Gjerde, Rolls-Royce’s general sale manager.
