MCS upgrades Zephyr engines

MCS Zephyr, an 18m South Cat, has been fitted with Caterpillar C-18 Acert engines with total power now 1,610bhp @ 2100rpm. The new engines are said to increase reliability, lengthen service intervals and improve fuel consumption.

Menno Kuyt, managing director at MCS, said: “We made the decision to make this significant investment as it improves both our fleet and what we can offer our clients. Reliability is very important to MCS as our clients need to have faith in the vessels they are chartering.”

The Zephyr is part of MCS’s fleet of ten crew transfer vessels, all of which are custom built and fully classed. MCS’s latest vessel MCS SWATH I will join the fleet in June 2016. The company also owns and operates a fleet of Shoalbusters, Multicats and tugs.

MCS has been in business since 1976 and for the last 14 years has operated on a number of key international offshore wind farm projects including the UK’s London Array and Sheringham Shoal, Denmark’s Horns Rev, Belgium’s Thornton Bank and Belwind, and Germany’s Global Tech I.

MCS is ISO 9001:2008, ISO 14001 and OHSAS 18001 certified.
