Maritime safety technologies conference
A conference on the application of new technologies to maritime safety has addressed underwater vision technologies, autonomous ships and surveillance platforms.
The Picasso project’s (Preventing Incidents & Accidents for Safer Ships in the Oceans) conference also addressed augmented reality, virtual reality and an automatic man overboard detection system.
‘Maritime and Port Sector 4.0: How new technologies pave the way for safer oceans’ focussed on the major developments of the Salvamento Marítimo (Spanish Maritime Safety and Rescue Agency)-led project and was attended by around 80 companies as well as national and international organisations connected to the maritime and port sector.
Implementation of the EUR3.8m project primarily consists of onshore and onboard safety; emergency drills; and training and the human factor.
It is co-financed by the European Commission through the CEF (Connecting Europe Facility) programme and brings together 14 partners from nine countries.
The project is scheduled for completion in July 2018.
Alongside Salvamento Marítimo, the event in Valencia was organised by Fundación Valenciaport and Magellan.
It was concluded by Capt. José Larangeira Anselmo, former advisor to the European Coordinator for Motorways of the Sea (MoS), Brian Simpson.
