Pre-season repair mix for Diedrich
A trio of offshore wind farm CTVs and a local survey boat are among the latest workboats and passenger ships to undergo repair or maintenance at Germany’s busy Schiffswerft Diedrich, reports Tom Todd.
Frisia Offshore’s wind farm catamaran CTVs Wind Force l, ll and lll – frequently in the news because of their work in the North Sea on wind farms – all underwent pre-season work at the yard. Diedrich is conveniently located for offshore operators on the Ems just upstream from major seaport and offshore hub Emden.
Diedrich said repair and maintenance on the 22.02m Wind Force l and Wind Force lll and on the 19.4m Wind Force ll included propeller, shaft, rudder and bow thruster checks and scheduled hull conservation renewal. All three boats also underwent class inspections.
Wind Force lll introduced by Frisia in 2016, like Wind Force ll in service since 2015, was built at Baltic Workboats in Estonia. Wind Force l, was designed and built at Diedrich in 2009.
The local workboat to call at the yard was the 23.3m survey and maintenance boat Lütje Hörn – one of several with; the Waterways and Shipping Office (WSA) in Emden. Diedrich said it called for work on its exhaust system but gave no specifics.
Elsewhere the Diedrich slipways and berths have hosted a mix of passenger excursion and ferry boats – also for pre-season sprucing up, maintenance or routine repairs. Many of the callers are regular bread and butter customers belonging to prominent local operators.
Among them this time was the now 58 year old veteran passenger excursion ship Jens Albrecht. The popular 33.37m long boat, driven by a single MAN D 2848 LE Diesel carries 250 passengers on local island trips. Along with the regular repair and machinery inspections it got a new salon door.
The 29m excursion boat Langeoog 11 spent two weeks undergoing its annual overhaul, conservation renewal and main machinery as well as nautical equipment inspection. Air conditioning was among other systems maintained. The 23.4 ferry Ditzum underwent similar work.
Norden Frisia’s 57.13m, 750-passenger Frisia lX has been the yard’s biggest customer of late. Along with its smaller sisters the 32m Frisia X and Frisia Xl, it came in for repair, maintenance and machinery plant inspection.
