Castoldi launches latest range of waterjets

Castoldi says the propulsion system is so-called because of its 400mm jet housing, hydraulic housing, hydraulic gearbox, multi-disc clutch and high thrust efficiency.

The development of the new family of Castoldi HCT waterjets started 12 years ago and according to owner Ciacomo Castoldi the latest developments in fluid dynamics has made it 12% more efficient than the outgoing model and also ‘perfectly interchangeable’.

“The bolt patterns have remained the same, removing the need for costly and time-consuming structural work around the duct and transom,” he said.

Castoldi says the new waterjet has improved acceleration, noise output, manoeuvrability and speed maintenance through sharp turns, as well as featuring the standard Castoldi durable hydraulic gearbox and multi-disc clutch that allows the drive to be engaged and disengaged without stopping the engine. 

“This is an important feature for police, patrol and search and rescue boats, which make up a significant proportion of Castoldi’s customers,” he says.

The Turbodrive 400 HCT is 509kg in weight and can handle up to 885kW (1,200HP) with a re-designed steering system that Castoldi says is more precise, which means speed loss is reduced during turns.

A new reversing bucket geometry and increased hydraulic power enable prompt and efficient crash-stop manoeuvres, it says.
