E-Power concept saves spare engine power for later use

Fischer Panda has introduced a system to its portfolio that harnesses spare energy created by a vessel’s inboard engine and stores it for later use.

The system, which can be used in a range of marine applications from leisure to workboats, has been developed by Integrel Solutions.

It converts raw electrical energy from an inboard engine into usable energy at 48 volts then saves it in a lithium battery to later power items such as heavy-draw equipment such as bow thrusters and winches, as well as hotel loads. The battery is monitored with sensors and an intelligent control system.

Fischer Panda has added the technology to its portfolio, claiming it ’revolutionises the way vessels are powered, offering an efficient and environmentally friendly alternative to traditional power sources’.

“The E-Power system improves the fuel efficiency of a propulsion engine by up to 25% and reduces fuel consumption while providing an alternative or additional power source to the traditional diesel generator option,” says Fischer Panda. “The system manages electrical power generation, storage, conversion and distribution all in one package.”

The unit works in the background automatically as the vessel operates, providing this ‘free energy’ for on-board systems in a way that requires very little user intervention.
