Macduff Ship Design has been asked to design two 18.5m landing craft service vessels on the back of a new hull design.

Mowi Scotland, which has fish farms in the west of Scotland, has ordered two new landing craft from Macduff Ship Design after seeing its new hull design on two other vessels.

Geraldine Mary and Helen Rice were designed for Inverlussa Marine Services, which offers a range of services, including offshore wind farm support and aquaculture.

“They were very happy with the performance from an efficiency and speed point of view,” said Ian Ellis, Macduff managing director. “The traditional boats have quite a square, bluff bow, so we have tried to give them more hull shape to make it as easy for them to go through the water as possible. Everything we’re doing, we’re trying to do to improve efficiency.”

In the last two years, Macduff has been developing a relationship with the Norwegian Skagen Ship Consulting, which will be responsible for the delivery of the design and equipment package before overseeing the build of the two new boats at Etkin Marine in Turkey.
