Vestdavit brings PLR-5000 davit to Nor-shipping

Vestdavit has brought a fullsize PLR-5000 davit to the Nor-Shipping annual conference in Norway, opened today and will run until April 7.

As its name would suggest, the davit has a lifting capability of five tonnes, and it is the largest davit the company has ever brought to a major exhibition, the company says.

Vestdavit already has orders for its lifting gear, with six PLR-5003KV systems being supplied for a series of Jan Mayen-class polar patrol vessels that are now being built at the Vard Langsten yard in Norway. The first should be delivered this year.

The PLR series of davits has been designed to handle a wide range of so-called interceptor craft, such as fast rescue boats, whcih range in size between 3.5 and 7 tonnes.

While typical applications for the davits are on naval offshore patrol, fishery protection, law enforcement and search and rescue boats, they were also used by the Royal Navy to deliver Covid-19 vaccines to the Pitcairn Islands in the southern Pacific, which have a lack of berthing facilities for larger vessels.

In February, Vestdavit announced it had been contraccted to fit davits on four newbuild muilti-role vessels for the Finnish Navy.
