VIDEO: ‘Urano’ tug sinks while undocking

An Argentina-flagged tug, owned by the company El Hauar, sank at the Santa Fe port of General San Martín, in San Lorenzo on Friday morning (December 8).

Reported by Argentine media as sinking ‘in an undocking manoeuvre’, they said it was believed that an overload of fuel in the bow of the 21m vessel caused the ship to begin to sink.

The crew of seven all managed to abandon ship without injury, reports said, and shore personnel were able to shoot this short film.

”The environmental impact that the sinking of the tugboat in the waters of the Paraná River will have is being evaluated, as well as the causes that motivated it,” said online publication Portal Portuario (in translation).

”Personnel from the Naval Prefecture of Argentina as well as from the company that owns the Urano are on site analyzing the circumstances of the incident and the steps to follow.”
