The world’s largest tug operator has reinforced its commitment to Northern Europe by establishing its regional headquarters in Rotterdam, underscoring the strategic importance of the region to its expanding towage and shipping operations.

Boluda Corporación Marítima has officially opened its Netherlands headquarters in Rotterdam’s Maritime Quarter. The office will serve as the operational centre for the company’s Northern European activities through its Boluda Towage and Boluda Shipping divisions.

For commercial tug operators, the move reflects the growing importance of Rotterdam as Boluda’s principal hub in a region where it now operates in more than 21 ports with a fleet of 138 tugs. The company has steadily expanded its footprint since entering Northern Europe in 2017, first establishing operations in Germany before growing into the Netherlands, Belgium, the UK, Finland and Norway.

The headquarters was officially inaugurated by Boluda chairman Vicente Boluda Fos, alongside Boluda Towage executive president Vicente Boluda Ceballos, Boluda Shipping executive president Ignacio Boluda Ceballos and chief corporate officer Verónica Boluda Ceballos.

The ceremony was attended by Port of Rotterdam harbour master René de Vries and Spain’s director general of Merchant Marine Ana Núñez.

Northwest Europe has become one of Boluda’s most important markets, encompassing some of Europe’s busiest ports and industrial centres. Rotterdam has emerged as one of the company’s principal operational bases as it has expanded its towage network across the region.

Today, Boluda Towage operates more than 850 vessels in 232 ports worldwide, making it the largest towage operator globally. The Rotterdam headquarters also reflects the increasing integration of Boluda’s towage and shipping businesses. In 2023, Boluda Shipping launched regular short-sea services linking the Iberian Peninsula with the Netherlands, the UK and Ireland, strengthening Rotterdam’s role within the company’s European logistics network.

Speaking at the opening, chairman Vicente Boluda Fos said the new headquarters reflected the company’s long-term commitment to one of the world’s most important maritime regions.
