Chemring roadmaps the industry
Chemring Marine is lending its support to a new study to better improve support for the UK marine industry.
Justine Heeley, managing director at Chemring, joined industry leaders to take part in the UK Marine Industries Landscape Roadmap & Capability Study – which aims to identify future priorities, capability and need.
Workshops have been set up to assist the Technology Strategy Board, Department for Business Innovation and Skills, Marine Industries Leadership Council and the Transport Knowledge Transfer Networking.
Justine Heeley said: “The idea is to bring the marine industry into the forefront of the Government’s mind to maximise funding and support. The sector is of vital importance to the UK because of the boost it brings to the economy and the number of people it employs”.
It’s not news that the UK marine industry is in need of more trained young workers to fill the skills gap and this will be one of the main focuses.
So far, the study has revealed a need for a strong emphasis on environmentally friendly opportunities and the influence of enabling technologies. Workshops are scheduled to run through this Autumn.
