Netherlands-based Lankhorst Ropes is exhibiting at SMM 2014 where it will present innovations in stronger and safer maritime ropes and through-life support.
On show will be Lanko Force, made from DSM’s Dyneema SK78 high modulus polyethylene (HMPE) fibres. The company says this sets a new benchmark for HMPE rope performance in mooring, towing, salvage and lifting. In addition to higher strength retention, the fibres are said to be better suited to the small, repetitive shock loads encountered during towing.
The company is also set to launch its technology and service package offering operators through-life support.
“Synthetic ropes are amongst the most critical elements of maritime operations. And so their handling and inspection are very important,” said Hans Pieter Baaij, commercial director, Lankhorst Ropes.
“Managing ropes can be time consuming, however, and so we’ve introduced the Lankhorst Technology and Service package for through-life rope support, enabling operators to focus on what they know best – meeting customer needs,” he added.
In addition, the award-winning A3 splice and Tipto Winchline ropes will be on show. Based on Lankhorst’s Tipto yarn, the seven strand Tipto rope features an overbraided jacket to protect the rope from wear and tear during handling.
Lankhorst ropes are designed to provide best practical solutions for mooring, towing, salvage and lifting and all ropes are supplied with Lankhorst guidelines on their application, inspection and retirement criteria.
