Major contracts for Ocean Safety at Seawork

Independent marine safety equipment supplier Ocean Safety signed a number of significant contracts during Seawork 2013.

The Ocean Safety ISO will become the liferaft of choice on every RNLI all weather lifeboat

Among them was an agreement to supply the RNLI with new liferafts in a wide reaching replacement programme for all their current liferafts in an operation that will take up to three years.

Ocean Safety also won the contract to supply 5,000 lifejackets to every commercial fisherman in Scotland. The Ocean Safety supplied Mullion Compact 150N Personal Flotation Device (PFD) lifejackets will be provided free of charge as part of an initiative by the Scottish Fisherman’s Federation (SFF).

Charlie Mill of Ocean Safety says: “We are very proud of achieving these two major contracts. Both are a phenomenal success for Ocean Safety.”

The Ocean Safety ISO liferaft will become the liferaft of choice on every RNLI all weather lifeboat, following a rigorous selection programme in which Ocean Safety had to produce innovative solutions to the RNLI’s requirements to exceed their own high safety standards for their fleet of vessels.

Ocean Safety was commissioned to design a new packing and stowage solution to meet the RNLI’s criteria. This meant designing a new liferaft container to fit the existing stowage.

For the Scottish Fishermen, each one with the correct mandatory certification will have the opportunity to apply for the latest PFD under the scheme. The new Mullion Mark 3 version was chosen by industry experts and fishermen, researching the best product for the scheme as the best solution for safety, comfort, durability and design.

“The local expertise at our Aberdeen branch, and the capability of our facility there all contributed to Ocean Safety becoming the chosen supplier to the scheme, says Charlie Mill. “Ocean Safety will guarantee a high level of service for the project to the fishing industry in Scotland, with their depots in Greenock and Aberdeen.”

For both the RNLI and the SFF contracts Ocean Safety has played an important role in providing training and advice.
