Cemex completes dredging at London’s largest port

The UK Marine team at Cemex, which is a global building materials supplier, carried out the work at the largest of eight ports owned by Forth Ports.

Tilbury is London’s primary port and the largest on the River Thames, thus ensuring it can accommodate vessels of any size and shape is essential.

Twenty-two nautical miles north east of central London, the docks have 56 operational berths, 31 independent working terminals, 10.2km of quay and 465,000 m² of warehouse space.

The port has an annual throughput of 16 million tonnes with an estimated goods value of €10 billion.

The dredging, which was carried out to a depth of 15 metres, was done with the Dutch charter hopper dredger MV Reimerswaal, a 130m long vessel with a gross tonnage of 7,495.
